Reginald Lucien Frank Roger “Reggie” Watts (born March 23, 1972) is a German-born American comedian, musician, beatboxer, and actor. His mother is French and his father African-American; because his dad was in the US Air Force, Reggie spent parts of his childhood in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain before the family settled in Great Falls, Montana. He started music early with piano and violin lessons from age five and later moved to Seattle to study music, including jazz.
Watts is best known for his improvisational performances, blending comedy, music, and lyrical absurdity. He uses his voice, keyboard, beatboxing, and loop machines to create improvisational soundscapes, often switching between the comedic and the surreal. He was house musician on Comedy Bang! Bang! and from 2015 to 2023 served as bandleader on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
His style defies easy categorization: part electronic, part soul, a splash of funk, experimental textures, and often rapid changes of tone—both musically and comically. Beyond stage comedy, he also acts, does voice work, and has released specials and albums that push the boundaries between music and performance art.
