To me this is highly inspirational….
I’ve already made 2 songs myself after hearing this wonderful peace of art.
Michael Samuel Kiwanuka (born 3 May 1988 in Muswell Hill, London) is a British singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. His parents are Ugandan immigrants who fled the regime of Idi Amin, and Kiwanuka has often spoken about how that heritage, identity, and resilience inform his music.
He first came to wider attention after winning BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll, and then releasing his debut album Home Again in 2012, which went gold in the UK. His second album, Love & Hate (2016), marked a deepening of his musical voice – more ambitious production, more emotional weight, and a willingness to confront identity, love, and conflict.
The centerpiece of Love & Hate is “Cold Little Heart”, a nearly ten-minute song that opens the album with an extended instrumental introduction before moving into its themes of heartbreak, self-reflection, and the cost of pride.
Produced by Kiwanuka alongside Danger Mouse, Inflo, and Paul Butler, the track became his signature song. It gained further recognition when selected as the theme for HBO’s series Big Little Lies, which introduced Kiwanuka’s sound to international audiences.
Beyond that, Kiwanuka has released Kiwanuka (2019), which won the Mercury Prize in 2020, and more recently Small Changes (2024), where he continues to explore personal growth, tone, and what it means to be authentic in a noisy world.
His style blends soul, folk, rock, orchestral textures, and introspective lyricism.
